What Inspired OBJ.02.BIRADIAL.HORN
The OBJ.02.BIRADIAL.HORN was inspired by a desire to reinterpret classic audio forms through a contemporary lens. We were drawn to vintage speakers not only for their acoustic character but for their physical presence—objects that shaped a room as much as they filled it with sound. Our intention was to preserve that sense of personality while refining the performance with modern precision. This balance between past and present became the foundation for the OBJ.02 series, guiding us towards a design that feels familiar yet distinctly reimagined.
How We Created OBJ.02.BIRADIAL.HORN
To bring this concept to life, we began with the core components of a JBL Control 47—a coaxial ceiling speaker that is often available second-hand and contains an excellent combination of tweeter, driver, and crossover in a compact unit. We reengineered the architecture by separating the high- and low-frequency elements, allowing each to be amplified independently for improved clarity, depth, and control. The biradial horn itself is crafted from layers of plywood, shaped and can be finished with a variety of stains and paints that complement the surrounding cabinetry. The overall form remains intentionally simple and adaptable, making the OBJ.02 ideal for both modern and traditional environments. With its shallow profile and the ability to flip the horn orientation, it can sit on shelves, integrate into existing setups, or hang cleanly from the ceiling while maintaining its distinctive character, this hung execution was chosen by Playground, a skateboard shop; Playground / location - https://share.google/TGhNaZWyyUnqCSXP0
