What Inspired OBJ.02.WAVEGUIDE
The OBJ.02.WAVEGUIDE was inspired by the desire to evolve the form and function of the OBJ.02.RH by exploring how a waveguide could shape sound differently from the original biradial horn. We wanted a design that maintained the sculptural presence of its predecessor while offering a more minimal geometry and a new way to control dispersion, directivity, and character. This shift opened the door to fresh material expression and a versatile installation footprint.
How We Created OBJ.02.WAVEGUIDE
The OBJ.02.WAVEGUIDE builds upon the same reliable foundations as the OBJ.02.RH, using the JBL Control 47 coaxial ceiling speaker, an exceptionally capable unit that is often found second-hand and contains a high-quality tweeter, driver, and crossover in a compact, efficient package. We reengineered the system by separating the high- and low-frequency components, allowing them to be amplified independently for improved clarity, depth. The waveguide itself embraces a simpler, more open form, which allows for a wide range of materials and finishes. We have experimented with stained pine, ash, and other timbers, though almost any wood or finish can be adapted to create a unique result. With its shallow profile and reversible configuration, the OBJ.02.WAVEGUIDE integrates easily into both contemporary and traditional environment, whether stacked on shelving, mounted from a ceiling, or used as a standalone sculptural audio object, we have installed in a yoga studio, placed on the floor on a stand that elevate at the slightest angle.
