What Inspired OBJ.01
The OBJ.01 was born from a deep exploration of form, sound, and space. Our aim was to create an object that could operate as both a high-performance audio device and a sculptural piece that transforms the atmosphere of a room. Throughout the conceptual process, we sought insight from an unusually wide network of creatives and specialists—from Audio Engineers to Origami Artists, Stone Masons, and Interior Designers. Their perspectives shaped a design language that is instantly recognizable both visually and sonically. Every OBJ we make carries stories within it, and we’re always happy to share the inspirations, experiments, and collaborations that helped guide the journey from concept to physical object.
How We Create OBJ.01
We have created many iterations of the OBJ.01, and for this latest iteration, creating the OBJ.01 meant selecting components and construction methods that aligned with and built on our original ambition for the design. The Volt 6.5-inch coaxial driver became the central element after visits to their workshop on the Weymouth coast, we experienced firsthand Volt's engineering approach and this driver's exceptional full-range output. What appealed to our design sensibility was the compact form, which made it ideal for both DJ monitoring and intimate, high-fidelity listening spaces. The enclosure is built with durable 18mm birch plywood with a form that complements the simplicity of the driver, resulting in an object that balances technical performance with sculptural presence a lot of people recognize this speaker from the DJ booth at All My Friends, although those speakers feature 10” B&C coaxial, very expensive; All My Friends / location - https://share.google/jibNhul86OCD0wTRN
Commissioning an OBJ.01
For those interested in commissioning an OBJ.01, we offer a collaborative process. We provide drawings, measurements, and guidance on finishes and driver selections to ensure the piece fits both your space and your listening needs. We work with reclaimed and limited-run components, some of our designs are produced in extremely small numbers—some as few as one of one.
