OBJ.HEX.LIGHT
What Inspired OBJ.03.HEX.LIGHT
The OBJ.03.HEX.LIGHT was sparked by our ongoing exploration of metal tubing and modular structures, evolving from a frame developed for a previous speaker commission inspired by Braun’s L2 from 1958, a design celebrated for its elegance and precision. While the original L2 was a reference point for the proportion of the speaker design, the HEX.LIGHT emerged as a playful exploration of hexagonal geometry and metal framing, inspired by the collection of shapes and material samples we keep in the studio. The concept grew from an architectural understanding of lights directionality, and our fascination with how geometric structures can interact with space.
Creating OBJ.03.HEX.LIGHT
The metal frame was reworked from a speaker stand we prototyped and developed by the metal fabrication studio in Birmingham - Listers tube. By constructing it in separate curved sections, we were able to adjust the overall height and proportion of the light depending on its intended environment, making it versatile for both domestic and commercial spaces. The oak shade, repurposed from a past speaker project, functions as a shade that directs light in a focused yet ambient manner, somewhere between a spotlight and a diffused shade. This combination of metal and wood, corners and tubes, a sculptural object that engages atmospherically, transforming the way light inhabits a space.
Commissioning an OBJ.03.HEX.LIGHT
For commissions, we provide a collaborative process, including drawings, measurements, and guidance on finishes, materials, and proportions to ensure the light fits your space and desired aesthetic. Each OBJ.03.HEX.LIGHT is a unique object, combining precision craftsmanship, modular adaptability, and sculptural presence tailored specifically for its environment.
