What Inspired OBJ.02.01 The OBJ.02.01 was conceived as an object for collaboration and hands-on learning in a workshop environment. Building on the design principles of the OBJ.02, we wanted to create a version of the speaker that could be produced in larger quantities by avoiding having to turn wooden horns, so we worked on using prefabricated horns and readily available drivers.
Creating OBJ.02.01 For the OBJ.02.01, we sourced a horn from a cinema system as the foundation, providing a consistent acoustic shape that could be brought in bulk. We then tested a variety of 6.5” drivers from brands such as Visations and Dayton to find units that offered both performance and accessibility. This process ensured that the workshop speakers would maintain a high-quality sound experience while being easy enough for participants to assemble and customize. We use this design to facilitate group workshops where participants assemble, explore, and experiment with the components while experiencing the principles of sound design firsthand. This concept retains the sonic clarity and architectural presence of the OBJ.02.BIRADIAL.HORN but is adapted to support a wider participatory approach, allowing us to engage a wider audience with the craft of speaker design. We are pleased to see how this design has brought hand made sound to proud homes one workshop at a time.
Commissioning an OBJ.02.01 For commissions, we offer guidance through a collaborative process, providing drawings, measurements, and recommendations for finishes and driver selection. While the design is intended for workshop replication, the use of reclaimed and limited components means production is still constrained, and some units may be entirely one-of-a-kind. Each OBJ.02.01 is therefore a unique combination of practical functionality, sonic clarity, and educational engagement, tailored to both individual and group creative experiences.
